Evil Whispers Castle

Eleanor Lyndon was hired to be a governess to a child in the Renaldis
Castle after the tragic death of his mother. When she arrives there,
everything isn't what it seems. The Castle is very quiet, the child
never laughs and she can hear the whispers that echo through the halls
at night. She's has been a governess for many years and has never seen
a family quite like this. The widowing husband hides himself away in
his study. The servants say he can be heard shuffling the corridors
late at night, pacing back and forth. The governess is determined to
figure out what's going on even if it costs her life.

The Lord
Nicolai had no idea how this really happened. One night he was spending
a wonderful evening with his wife then everything took a turn when they
were attacked. He locks himself up in his study trying to figure out
what went wrong. When the governess starts poking around, this only
makes him more angry. But how could he get angry at such a beautiful
face...

Evil Whispers Empty Re: Evil Whispers

Post by Gingerduckii Tue Jun 08, 2010 6:24 am

As Eleanor dressed for dinner she couldn't help but speculate over her new employee. While he was obviously very wealthy and much loved by his people, he was so mysterious. There hadn't even been an interview. The agency had sent off her details and she'd been accepted into the household. Though she knew many men left this kind of work to the women of the household so maybe the Lord still held that to hire staff was a woman's job, his wife's job, even though she was now deceased.

Then there was the boy, she wondered just how losing a parent at such a young age could affect you. She had never met a child like him, so young but so cold, it was as if all of the lughter had been sucked out of his life. She only hoped that she could help him, but it didn't seem like he wanted her help, or anyone's for that matter. Maybe once she was more firmly part of the household she could appeal to the Lord to perhaps spend more time with his son, maybe that's what the problem was, maybe the boy was missing a parent figure in his life. There was no way that Eleanor would try and tkae his mother's place, no she would rather seem more like a respected friend to the boy. She would have to talk to the other staff members about the family.

She adjusted the necklace around her neck and pinched her cheeks before standing and smoothing down the bodice of her dress. It was time for dinner.

Nicolai finished promptly with his dinner. He wiped his mouth then realized he soiled his attire. He frowned looking down then back up at his closet. He'd change into something suitable to meet his son's new care taker. He shed the clothes he was currently wearing. The articles falling to the floor quickly. He reached for his clean trousers, pulling them on. Then he pulled his white button-up dress shirt. He buttoned it up rather quickly. He tucked it in promptly, leaving the first few buttons at the top unbuttoned. He wanted to look casual not all business like. He rolled up the sleeves to his elbows. He looked in the mirror to make sure he looked presentable.

William didn't want to go to this dinner with her. She rubbed him so wrong and he rather she not be here at all. He rather he didn't have a caretaker at all but father wouldn't fly with that. William slowly changed into appropriate for dinner. He knew his father wouldn't be too dressed up so he didn't either. He angrily pulled on his shoes then left his room.

Nicolai walked out of his room slowly and with ease. He was in no hurry to get there. It didn't matter the time he arrived. He was always on time, everyone else was just simply earlier. When he came the staircase he looked up to see if anyone was coming. Much to his dismay, it was no one.

Evil Whispers Empty Re: Evil Whispers

Patrick smiled as he tasted the soup and congratulated the cook. Even the Lord would enjoy this food. The ingredients were simple and the spices just right to suit the young master's palate. He'd already found out about the new governess' dietary needs and had been rather surprised to find that didn't have any specialties like the majority of the young ladies these days. When she had seen his carefully monitored expression she had merely smiled and in a confident voice told him, "My family were comfortable but we worked hard to be that way. From a young age I was taught to appreciate whatever was put in front of me. If we didn't eat anything it was left on the plate ready for the next meal." without any hint of annoyance at this rather unconventional method. Patrick had returned her easy smile and wondered if he had finally found a girl able to stand the young master. He pulled himself out of this reverie and nodded to the cook and kitchen staff, dinner was ready, all he had to do now was to make sure that everyone was at the table.

Eleanor closed the door quietly behind her and glanced around her feeling rather out of place in this huge house but she pushed past it. She'd worked with the wealthy before, maybe nothing like this but then maybe this Lord would be better than others below him who thought themselves far too important and tended to be people she wanted to slap some sense into. But she was just a mere governess and physical violence from a woman was frowned upon in modern society. She sighed slightly and held her head up high as she strode confidently down the stairs and to the dining room. William may not want her in the house but he'd given her a fairly apt tour on the way to her room so she found the dining room with relative ease. The gorgeous scent of meat wafted through the corridor and Elenor was instantly starving. No matter what anybody said about the rich, they always had wonderful food. With a small smile she stepped delicately into the room, her eyes falling on possibly the most handsome man she'd ever laid eyes on.

Patrick was pouring wine for the master when Eleanor entered the room. He straightened slowly and smiled, at least she was dressed accordingly. The pastel pink set off with the black lace trimmings suited her complexion and brought a warmth to her chocolate brown eyes, the delicate necklace rested just below her collarbone and the neckline was an appropriate cut.

"Miss Eleanor Lyndon, my lord, William's new governess." He murmured before moving to pull a chair out for her.

William fumbled down stairs, catching the back view of his father. Instantly realizing he'd be late for dinner if he continued behind him. William slipped quietly passed him and into the secret passage below the staircase. William ran as fast as he could. He made a left then a sharp right turn. He was out of breath by the time he reached the secret passage that emptied in the kitchen. He walked briskly passed the cooks and into the dining room. He smiled promptly to Patrick before taking his seat.

Nicolai licked his lips, still tasting his dinner. A smirk played softly upon his lips as he kept his slow stride to the dining room. He had to admit he felt slightly nervous to meet the new governess. Simply because he feared for her sanity. Surely William will drive her to the brink of insanity before she decides she's had enough. He shook his head at the thought of his own son's behavior. But he's been this way since his mother's death. Nicolai pushed lightly at the door to the dining room. He nodded to Patrick then eyed the governess with a soft stare.

Evil Whispers Empty Re: Evil Whispers

Post by Gingerduckii Fri Jun 11, 2010 10:09 pm

Eleanor returned the stare...she felt like she couldn't move, couldn't breathe...god his wife (may she rest in peace) had been a lucky woman. She could now see the semblance between him and William, speaking of the boy was already sitting at the table and Eleanor just knew that he would pick up on any sign of weakness she showed in front of his father and tehn use it against her in hte future. So she smiled politely and walked forward to the seat that Patrick was holding out for her.

"Good evening my lord, it's a delight to meet you. Thank you." She murmured quickly to Patrick as she sat down. He nodded to her and then left the room. She smiled at William who was sitting opposite her. "Good evening William." She would be pleasant to the little monster even if he never returned the favour. Eleanor smiled at the Lord again.

"You have a beautiful house." She intoned truthfully, meaning every syllable, to her this house didn't feel like a home but given the circumstances that was almost to be expected.

William rolled his eyes at the governess. Put on a show for him, they all do, he thought to himself. "Good evening." He mumbled to her, trying his best to be polite in front of his father.

Nicolai gave a hard, stern stare at William before taking his seat. "Thank you, Miss Lyndon. It is a delight to meet you as well. I hope my son's behavior so far hasn't scared you any," he said offering this in a way of an apology for his son's actions. He pulled the napkin out and placed on his lap. "I assure you that if he gets out of hand, he will be tended to by myself." He grabbed for his glass and took a sip of it.

William sat back in his seat and crossed his arms. He didn't dare to speak to his father without being asked. He was deathly scared of him. His eyes flashed to the governess then back to his father.

Post by Gingerduckii Fri Jun 11, 2010 10:26 pm

Eleanor smiled back at William, so he wouldn't cross his father, well at least he had some repsect...or maybe it was just common sense. She shouldn't be fooled by the casual air of the Lord with his shirt unbuttoned in the most improper way, but she shouldn't live completely under his thumb either. She had to make William see that she wasn't going to be a dictator or completely against him. So she thanked Patrick again as he filled her glass and took a small sip.

"I am sure that won't be necessary my lord." She informed him, glancing back at William to judge his reaction. "Though I was wondering, are there any boundaries you would like to set concerning his education and well-being?" She asked, it was best to find these out first-hand so she didn't make any mistakes that could lead to her getting the sack.

William kept silent fearing to speak out of line. His eyes wondered between the two as his stomach growled.

Nicolai looked to William and heard the sound, "Patrick, would you serve dinner, please." He gave the order then turned his attention back to Eleanor. He thought for only a moment before he spoke, "I have no boundaries. I just ask that he gets the best education he can be given," he answered, taking another sip of his glass. The wine must be laced with blood. Must be Patrick's doing.

Patrick nodded and retreated into the kitchen ordering for the first course to be brought up to the table. He tasted each dish before it went out to make sure it was at the right temperature.

Eleanor smiled.

"That you will not need to worry about my lord, education is the highest priority on my agenda." She assured him glancing down at the dish of soup that was being placed in ront of her. It all looked so well poured out, she almost didn't want to ruin the display of it.

William ate his soup promptly. His eyes would flash between Eleanor and his father during their dinner conversation. It reminded him so much of the dinners with his mother and father. The laughter that could heard echoing through the halls. It angered him that these women were trying to take her place. He felt some hatred towards his father for enjoying her company.

Nicolai enjoyed the dinner very much. It made him feel so light-hearted. He was able to keep a smile on his face as they spoke. He took in her every feature but kicked himself for finding her beautiful and very captivating. When dessert was brought, he knew that their evening conversation was coming to an end. Nicolai had almost forgotten his son was in the room. He really enjoyed her company.

"Have you found your sleeping quarters to satisfactory?" He asked, taking a sip of his drink then took a bit of his pie.

Evil Whispers Empty Re: Evil Whispers

Post by Gingerduckii Sun Jun 13, 2010 3:37 am

Eleanor found the Lord increasingly easy to talk to, they got on like a house on fire, he was charismatic and friendly and so very handsome. He would turn ever so slightly and the light from the candles would fall over the hard planes of his face in a different way and she'd forget how to breathe. She was amazed that she could even eat at a respectable pace their conversation was so strong. But then she'd catch the mutinous look on William's face and guilt would wash over her. She thought about how it must look to him, how they were getting on so well after losing his mother. She would have to curb her desire for this man, find a nice villager or something. That would settle the boy's fears.

She quickly swallowed and took a sip of the wine before answering Nicolai's question and nodded, smiling softly.

"They are the best I have ever had the fortune to reside in." She said truthfully, taking another bit of the apple pie and glancing at William. "William are there any subjects that you dislike?" She asked, not wanting the boy to feel left out.

Nicolai couldn't deny how she made him feel more alive than he's been in so long. But that familiar pang of guilt hit him. Not for his wife but because of the monster he is. It was, in fact, his fault for his wife's death. He nodded to her when she answered then moved his eyes to his son when he was called upon.

William looked up from his pie and looked at Eleanor. He gritted his teeth slightly. "Math," he answered in an almost mumble tone. He took another bite from the pie. Any subject you teach is the subjects I hate, he thought to himself. William is very excellent in math because of his mother. There's no way she'd be able to teach the way his mother did.

Nicolai sighed, "I thought you were excellent in math? Are you not applying yourself correctly to your studies, son?" He inquired.

William didn't know how to answer his father. He pushed his plate away, no longer hungry for his pie. "May I be excused?" He asked but got up and left without an answer, anyways. This only angered Nicolai but he kept his calm, cool state. He made a mental note visit his son later.

"I apologize for his behavior. He's been out of sorts since my wife died." He spoke trying to show no sadness from speaking of his wife.

Post by Gingerduckii Sun Jun 13, 2010 4:49 am

Eleanor lowered her fork at the banter between father and son and wasn't too surprised when William left. She had overstepped the mark and vowed to be more careful in the future. She shook her head slowly and watched the door where William had disappeared out of. She sighed and glanced back at Nicolai.

"There is no need to explain my lord, he is still grieving. It is a hard thing, for a child to lose a parent." She murmured glancing back towards the doors. Her shoulders sagged in a soft sigh.

"I cannot begin to imagine the pain that he must be feeling, he probably thinks I am trying to take his mother's place but no one can do that. I will take his resentment and whatever he decides to throw my way. One day he may come to accept me." Eleanor shrugged again and smiled weakly at Nicolai. She had already lost her parents, thankfully she'd been out of the house at the time but the pain had still been substantial. This was her first job after coming out of mourning, she just hoped she was strong enough to withstand the continuous black mood of her new charge.

Nicolai sighed softly, "Thank you for understanding. He took her death very hard but he needs to know no one will be taking her place." He said sternly. No one could ever take her place. He couldn't help but go back to the last wonderful memory of her. He finished the last bite of his pie before motioning to Patrick to retrieve his plate and pour him some more wine.

"So tell me what made you decide to go into education?" He asked placing his napkin on the table.

William ran to his room and slammed his door. He threw himself onto his bed and cried. He hated crying but Eleanor reminded him of his mother. His father was getting along so well with her. How he could he not be taken with her? The thought was killing him. He sat up and cursed softly. "If it's the last thing I do, I'll make her regret coming here." He gritted.

Evil Whispers Empty Re: Evil Whispers

Post by Gingerduckii Mon Jun 14, 2010 4:40 am

Patrick cleared the table and poured more wine for Lord Nicolai and Eleanor who had, true to her word, cleared all of her plates. He smiled to himself while his back was turned away from the table. He had a feeling that this young woman would be the key to setting the house right again. Yes the Lord loved Lady Catherine immensely but the young master needed a mother's care. Miss Eleanor was of age and currently not spoken for. But he was getting ahead of himself, the two got along well enough, but he hadn't liked the look in Master William's eyes before he left. If there ever was an opportunity for the young boy to throw a spanner in the works, this was it.

Eleanor sipped her newly re-filled wine and decided this would be her last glass, she preferred to keep a clear head about things, especially first nights in a new house. She nodded at Nicolai's words.

"Of course, It is an impossibility. A woman would be a fool to even contemplate such an act." She agreed. She smiled softly, everybody always asked her that.

"The desire for moderate independance." She replied, her fingers running up and down the stem of her glass.

Nicolai smiled softly at her. So much of her reminded him of Catherine which only made him attracted to her all the more. He shook his head mentally. He couldn't allow himself to be attracted to her. Not now, not with William in the state he was. William wouldn't be able to handle his father being with someone else. He couldn't stop himself from compare how their eyes were the same. The way they both spoke was so much alike. The way their smiles reminded him of the sunrise he'll never get to see. He smiled softly at the memories.

"May I walk you to your quarters?" He asked her, only hoping she wouldn't decline.

William prepared his plan. He wouldn't use it right away, no he'd wait for the perfect moment. She'd regret ever stepping into their house. He wore such an evil look upon his face.

Patrick froze as he heard his master's polite question. What was he thinking? This would be disastrous, surely the Lord didn't think that anything good could come out of such a request. Well intentions put aside it was too risky not only for the obvious, but what about William? If he found out what his father has asked he'd be horrified and it would only pit him more against Eleanor. Patrick sincerely hoped that the girl had inner strength, she would need it to deal with the young boy. He waited impatiently for her response.

Eleanor blinked and almost choked on her wine. She managed to hide her surprise by concentrating hard on putting her empty glass back down. What should she say? To say yes would be polite but what if one of the servant's got wind of it? Society would not allow something like this, not without utter scandal and possible ruin of her reputation. What if he tried to take advantage of her? God only knew of the things that happened behind closed doors and the gossip would be all over town. But to deny him with no real reason would be rude...

"I...thank you my lord." She managed to push past the stammrthat came out of nowhere. "You may.."

In the shadows Patrick cursed inwardly it was time to take this into his own hands. He stepped forward and cleared his throat slightly.

"My lord, May I have a word with you a moment?"

Nicolai smiled at her warmly, very grateful she accepted. Of course, he knew this was improper but he knew what his son was capable of and knew he was quite angry. He just wanted to make sure she made it to her quarters okay. Though, walking her there may fuel Williams rage. He thought for a moment then took a sip of his wine. He heard Patrick clear his throat. To Eleanor, it was most likely very soft but to him, he could hear a mile away. Just like the heartbeat the sounded from her chest.

"If you would excuse me," he said as he rose from the table and almost glided to Patrick. He knew Patrick wouldn't agree to this at all. He gave Patrick a kind smile. Quietly under his breath he spoke, "Yes?"

Elenor smiled quickly at him and nodded trying to control the blush that was stealing over her cheeks. Had she actually just accepted such an incongruous request? Oh god she had. She sent a quick prayer in hope that it would help. But she wasn't sure if it would...oh hell now she was having blasphemous thoughts! Her father would be turning in his grave if he knew!

Patrick gave his master a look.

"Do you know what you're doing my lord? This is dangerous. We don't know her yet and it won't do for you to ose control around her." he murmured, knowing they were far away enough from the table so that Eleanor wouldn't hear. "You go into your office and i'll escort her up, I know the kind of tricks William may put out for her. It would better this way." He said pointedly.
