Heroes Empty Heroes

Post by tony stark Sat Jun 05, 2010 5:17 am

Created in 2006 by Tim Kring. Follows the story of humans with special abilities, such as an invincible cheerleader and a flying politician. Writing team involved comic book legend Jeph Loeb amongst others. Was axed in 2010 after suspected tension in the writers room, disputes over budgets, some actors not signing for another season and a serious decline in viewers from what was often described as a phenomenal first season.

Starred the likes of Milo Ventimiglia, Ali Larter, Zachary Quinto and Jack Coleman. Guest starred various actors such as John Glover. And, if I’m not mistaken, I do believe comic book legend Stan Lee had a cameo in it once.

The show was written very much like a visual comic book with each episode ending with a cliff hanger and the volumes were released very much in the comic book arc format. The first volume, Genesis involved the plots of ‘save the cheerleader, save the world’ and ‘how to stop an exploding man’, the second volume, Generations, was largely based upon familial relations and the actions of previous generations and the repercussions they had in the present day. The third volume, Villains, drew lines around heroes and villains and had the tag line ‘you can’t choose your family, but you can choose a side’ or something to that effect. The penultimate volume, Fugitives, pretty much describes itself and the final volume, Redemption had various elements including characters redeeming themselves for their past sins or having their sense of redemption seriously warped by malicious forces. Though, I may have completely misinterpreted the final volume.

Personally, I thought the first season was fantastic and I enjoyed the second one. I adored the start of volume three and the end of volume four but volume five was pretty bad in my opinion. It had its good moments and the acting was still good but, I think by that time you could tell Jeph Loeb was gone, and that man is a damn genius. But anyway, I’ll shut up with my opinion on Loeb now XD What did everyone else think of the show?

I sadly haven't been able to follow this. Though from time to time I catch an episode here and there.

I've decided to just watch them in the DVD packs. I'm never free when it's on, plus I forget the day/time. XD It is one of my favorite shows though, I won't lie.

I love this show, but, like Mel, I've had to resort to DVDs. I got all my family addicted. It's pretty shibby. Though I haven't watched all the episodes yet.
