Another series by William Nicholson, though in my opinion it isn’t as good as The Wind on Fire.

They follow a kind of mismatched trio of friends, Seeker, Morning Star and Wildman who all want to become Noble Warriors through this lovely, peaceful group of fighting monks. Things develop and then spoilers happen and similarly to The Wind on Fire you do love the main characters. And again Nicholson proves that he is like, a genius.
